A stunning valley in the Lyngen Alps in Northern Norway, where I spent four days photographing and exploring the glaciers and mountains. The fall colors were peaking and very vibrant. Scandinavia gets some of the most spectacular fall colors I've ever seen. I spent two days exploring the glacier you see on the right. This was back in 2008. Very memorable trip.
The third highest peak in Norway, Store Skagastølstind, bathing in the most divine light. The peak is located in Jotunheimen National Park and has some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen. I was lucky to get to photograph this area for many days while visiting a friend. The area is known for its rainy and foggy days, so seeing light like this doesn't happen too often.
The texture of a mountain side. Please view larger for better texture and details.
A glacier fed river carves the landscape by creating intriguing shapes to the rocks.
The frequent rainy days create lush vegetation in the fjord land. These subjects get neglected too often when your surroundings are spectacular. There were mountains all around me and waterfalls everywhere but still, these patterns and colors in nature stole my attention.
This was a stunning valley I spent about a week in Norway. Nestled among the mountains and glaciers, the wildflowers and summer colors were abound. The glacier you see on the left has retrieved a lot in the recent years and is no longer explorable, really. The little glimpse of another glacier you see on the right, Tuftebreen, however is. I had a chance to explore and climb it on one long summer day. It took us 11 hours to reach the top where the largest glacier in continental Europe, Jostedalsbreen, completely opens up in front of you and stretches beyond your visibility.
A delicate image requires delicate viewing! Please slow down for a second to view this one. After some dramatic images on the site, the subtle ones get overlooked easily. But what you're viewing here, is something special. This is Jostedalsbreen, the largest ice field in continental Europe. What makes it even more special, is that it was not shot from an airplane like these images often are, this was taken atop the mountain after spending the whole day working my way up a very difficult glacier, and spending the night atop the mountain. There's snow cover over the glacier here, but you can see some crevasses, that in fact are absolutely enormous. If you placed a person in this image, they would appear as a tiny speck. Witnessing this kind of play of light on this huge glacier is definitely very rare. So please dim your lights, use a good monitor and view in "original size", thanks.
I suppose it's not very often that I will post an image that's been photographed around the blue sky hours, but this scene really worked the best with it. The light was special though as it peeked through the clouds. This was taken fairly late in the evening (the image info has false time) but still appears like it's taken in the daytime, due to the midnight sun. What really attracted me in this scene in particular was the way this river of glacier water is snaking through the brilliantly shaped rocks during the green summer months.
A pretty evening in Jotunheimen. The next day we would spend 12 hours summiting a peak called Falketind.
